A new name and new structure tell the story behind the Region 4 State Support Team now serving Lake and Geauga counties.
The Region 4 State Support Team or SST will provide the service functions of the former East Shore SERRC (Special Education Regional Resource Center) as well as the functions of the former Northeast Regional School Improvement Team (RSIT), which served a five-county area including Lake and Geauga counties. The fiscal agent and “home” for the Region 4 SST is the Lake County Educational Service Center (LCESC), located in Painesville, Ohio. The Lake County ESC and Geauga County ESC continue to function as independent entities, providing both direct and complimentary services to their respective counties.
What is an SST?
An Educational Regional Service System (ERSS) was mandated by Ohio HB 115 (July 1, 2007) to create a coordinated, integrated, and aligned system of regional professional development and technical assistance to districts.
The intent was to reduce duplication of efforts and create a streamlined, efficient service delivery system to schools and districts.
The ERSS consists of 16 regions across Ohio; each containing an SST.
The SST is intended to support state and regional educational initiatives and efforts to improve school effectiveness and student achievement for ALL students.
Work of the SST includes the following School Improvement functions:
- Support for districts in identifying and remedying low academic performance for all students
- Support for districts in systems change efforts to improve student achievement and progress
- Compliance with federal and state requirements to improve results for students with disabilities and those at risk of being identified as disabled.
- Early learning and school readiness.
- Literacy
- Deployment of state and federal initiatives
